Adaptive Ice Skating Meetup

The Department of Conservation and Recreation offers an Adaptive Ice Skating program. The DCR provides everything you need for fun times on the ice! There are several time slots available, but a representative from the DSRG will be attending all of the dates below in the 11:30 time slot. Please note: registration is required. The full details of the DCR program are below.

WHAT: Adaptive Ice Skating in Holyoke

WHERE:  Henry J. Fitzpatrick Rink, 575 Maple St, Holyoke, MA 01040

WHEN: Sunday’s, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

DATES: March 2

TIME SLOTS:  11:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m. (subject to availability)

COST: FREE (entry & equipment are free-of-charge)

EQUIPMENT: We will have helmets, skates, Yaktrax (ice grippers), skate walkers and ice sleds available but you are welcome to bring your own equipment. Program staff can assist with transfers or participants can go on the ice in their wheelchairs.

WHO CAN ATTEND?  This program is for individuals with disabilities, their families, staff, and friends. This is an inclusive program, and all family members and staff are encouraged to join on the ice to help support (we will fit you with Yak Trax in the lobby if you can’t skate).  

Participants must meet our Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC) and current Program Attendance Guidelines. You can meet the EEC on your won or with the help of a caregiver (family member, friend, PCA)

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

To Register:

  • Contact UAP: email DCR.UniversalAccess@mass.gov or call (413) 461-7126
  • Select your date(s) and preferred time slot (you can skate for approximately one hour)
  • Provide the names of everyone attending (including participants, family members, and staff) and let us know if anyone will be using an ice sled.
  • Complete Release Forms, in advance, for everyone attending (including family members and staff). This can be done on-line (Release Form).

Note: If someone is under 18 years of age, or has a legal guardian, a signature from a parent or guardian is required. Release forms are valid for one year.
